“Mere Paas Maa Hai,” This Shashi Kapoor Dialogue From Deewar Will Stay With Us Forever

Remember the iconic scene where the good cop Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) confronts his crooked brother, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) in Deewar 1975 ?

They utter the dialogues:

Amitabh Bachchan: "Aaj mere paas building hai, property hai, bank balance hai, bangla hai, gaadi hai..kya hai kya hai tumhare pass?"
Shashi Kapoor: "Mere paas maa hai."

As Shashi Kapoor left us today, this dialogue from Yash Chopra directed Deewar continues to echo amongst us. The dialogue delivery, the body language, poker-faced stares – irreplaceable! We have truly lost a treasure today.

The veteran star was admitted to Ambani Hospital last night and passed away this evening. His elder son, Kunal, was by his bedside when his end came. His daughter Sanjana and his younger son Karan are on their way. Both of them were out of station when the veteran star breathed his last.
